Alessandra Rombolá is a musician involved in different aspects of music making. She is a classical trained musician interested in experimental music: new “notated” music by contemporary composers, graphic scores, sound installations, or her own free improvised music.
She collaborates with dance, plastic art and video art demonstrating great versatility and creative skills both as interpreter and as improviser.
She is specialized in the “extended techniques” of the flute, with the intent of exploring the contemporary world and developing her own musical language.
Born in Catanzaro (Italy) in 1973, she started her studies at the Conservatoire of her hometown Vibo Valentia and graduated in 1993 at the Conservatoire “G. Verdi”, of Cuneo. In 1998 she received the Postgraduate Certificate in Performance and the following year the Master in Performance and Related Studies from Trinity College of Music, London.
Based in Madrid since 2000, she collaborated with the Orchestra of “Escuela Reina Sofía”, the Ensemble “Cosmos XXI”, the Flute Ensemble “E-Wave”, “Proyecto Guerrero, “Plural Esnsemble”, “OperaNova”, etc.
She has been working with some of the most significant musicians in the European scene of improvisation and has been invited to different festivals such as “Festival de Otoño 2003”, Festival Internacional de Improvisación “Hurta Cordel” 2003 y 2004, Festival Internacional de Improvisación “¡Escucha!”2003 y 2004”, No Spaghetti Edition Festival 2004”, “Ciclo Musica de Hoy” , “Festival de Música de Alicante 2007”, “X Jornadas de Música Contemporánea de Córdoba” etc.
She has performed music by J. Cage, C. Cardew, O. Messaien, L. Barber, F. Guerrero, M. Soltelo, T. Hosokawa, T. Takemitsu, M. S. Verdú, D. Fujikura, S. Sciarrino, J. Harvey, E. Varése, K. Fukushima, L. Berio, J.M. Artero, etc…
She is currently involved in different groups: MUTA, with the percussionist Ingar Zach and the harpist Rhodri Davies, the duo with the accordion player Esteban Algora, the trio MEI, dedicated to contemporary music from Jepan. She is co-founder of the ensemble Zona de Tránsito, based in Madrid.
She has recorded for the labels: Confront, Teñidos, Sillón (solo flute) and Another Timbre.
Since September 2006 she has been appointed Flute Tutor and she is currently teaching at the Conservatoire “Joaquín Turina” of Madrid.
